Welcome to your session.

Our Intention:

We want to capture real families and leave them with both a beautiful image and the encouragement to live fully. We want them to leave excited about what was captured but more importantly about who they are. It is an act of trust, collaboration, and vulnerability.

The Simple Portrait Project is a team of incredibly talented photographers and editors that know how to capture and bring to the surface extraordinary portraits.  By operating in a very specific set of fixed technical parameters we can explore the unlimited ways to revise a family portrait set up.

THE EXPERIENCE

Once you find your way inside, someone will greet you. Relax and grab a water, coffee, beer...or if you need something stiffer we can accommodate that, too. Hopefully, you arrived about 15 minutes early to get warm and ready. Check the mirrors if you need to adjust hair and make-up. Another portrait group will probably be mid-session or wrapping up, so you'll get a preview of what to expect.

On Set:

We're working together, so let's make the most of it. Your photographer will shoot about 75-100 frames. The shoot is designed to move fast. Sessions go for 20 minutes. Just long enough to shoot 4-5 set ups with variations in between. Easy as that!

The edit:

Once the session is over your images are sent over to our editing team for them to intentionally choose the best of the best for you to view. Images will be already cropped and and converted into both color and black and white options.

We create an honest portrait with a BIAS that you are GOOD. We truly believe your beauty is already established and we want to affirm that truth.

*Photoshop— we don’t photoshop, swap heads, fix hair or blemishes. All corrections are global, spots on the camera sensor will be fixed however

Gallery Delivery:

Be on the lookout for an email containing your gallery. We use a gallery delivery service called Pic-time. Pic-time is a one stop shop for you to view your images, choose your favorites and even order a framed photo for grandma if you’d like. Our team has curated a selection of items we think will help your images shine.

DON’T LET YOUR JPGS GROW UP TO BE JPGS.

RACHEL PETERS

Growing up, I hated having family portraits taken. Inevitably, I’d end up being dressed in the same clothes as my two older brothers, having my hair fussed over, being yelled at to smile more naturally as I sat among fake props, while a cheesy photographer referred to me as “sport” or “princess”. The Simple Portrait session redeemed all of those memories with a casual session that even my infant daughter enjoyed. Jonathan has a talent for letting the people in his work shine (no ugly backdrops needed). The result was a set of photos that capture the personality of our family. We love them. Thank you Jonathan!
